| A Million Engines in Neutral is a tightly-knit group of friends from the Northwest Ohio area that first formed in the summer of 2006. A Million Engines in Neutral (AMEIN) has gone on to perform across Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana, showcasing their unique instrumentation (upright bass, piano, and guitar, among other instruments like the harmonium, glockenspiel, and banjo) and multi-layered vocals (4/5 band members are featured vocalists). AMEIN strives to write music that may be considered "high art". Concerned primarily with the aesthetic of so-called "story songs", the group has told many tales to their fans, including those of a single protagonist found in the songs "The Whiteness of the Whale", "Bigger Brushes, Brighter Colors", "Constant Conflict", "Big City, Go Easy". While admittedly receiving little attention from Toledo's print media, AMEIN has been featured on WUPW's "Toledo Idol" and on the Toledo ABC nightly news. Additionally, AMEIN has shared the stage with national acts such as RX Bandits, Murder By Death, and The Silent Years. To date, AMEIN has had over 50,000 listeners on their official website. For a two-week span in late 2006, AMEIN was listed as the #1 unsigned band on Purevolume.com. AMEIN has released 13 tracks, and is yet to charge a dime for any of them. All are available for free at amillionenginesinneutral.com. AMEIN began recording their new album in April 2009, which will be commercially released.
